Forms of Identification Needed for Notarization

To properly notarize your documents, at least one form of valid identification is required.

California recognizes all forms of ID listed to be valid if issued within the last five years.

ID card or driver's license issued by the State of California
United States passport
Driver's license issued by another U.S. state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue driver's licenses
ID card issued by another state
U.S. military ID card with a photograph, ID number, description and signature of the ID holder
Inmate ID card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Employee ID card issued by an agency or office of the State of California

For clients without a valid form of ID, a positive ID can be established by the oath of one credible witness known by me and the client or the oath of two credible witnesses who know the client and can provide valid forms of identification.
